Auricular therapy has been around ever since the 3rd century and stems from the belief that the ear contains specific points that can be manipulated to improve health, and solve disorders. It has become a well practiced form of therapy that is helpful in relieving stress, addictions, reducing pain, and more. The standard process requires needles as it is considered a form of acupuncture. The needles are placed into the points to stimulate healing.
This technique was developed in China and early methods are written in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine. This collection of acupuncture procedures were used during 500 BC and was put on the back burner in favor of methods used later that were discovered in 1950s Paris. Later more modern techniques were used.
For those of you that are uncomfortable with needles there are other methods used such as ear seeds. These are tiny beads the therapist places on your points so you can stimulate them yourself and last up to two weeks. People have reported a reduction in their anxiety and have increased relaxation. Others have felt calmer and more happy after using this method for a while. Another way the therapist performs this procedure without using needles is by using a long metal probe to stimulate the points on the ear.
Auricular therapy can be an effective means to improve your health and wellbeing. It can also be used in conjunction with other forms of alternative medicine and other forms of acupuncture, or it can be effective alone. As always this isn’t a substitute for physicians and other forms of healthcare and should be used alternatively.
